Rancho Bernardo is a hilly planned community about 25 miles north-northeast of downtown San Diego, immediately north of Carmel Mountain Ranch, northwest of the City of Poway and south of Escondido.

Popularly know as RB, Rancho Bernardo consists of canyons, rolling hills and a sprawling community of largely affluent tract homes, shopping malls, golf courses and office parks. Rancho Bernardo is also home to one of the oldest vineyards in Southern California. The Bernardo Winery is 119 years old and is still fully functional as a producing winery.

Rancho Bernardo is also noted for its annual carnival style street festival held every June – RB Alive! which has a plethora of musical entertainment, artistic performances, carnival rides, historic information, business booths and tremendous variety of foods.

Rancho Bernardo is home to Corporate Headquarters of Sony Corporation, the first Japanese factory in the United States
