Scripps Miramar is an inland bedroom community within the City of San Diego. Miramar Reservoir is located within Scripps Miramar and offers recreational boating and fishing. A unique feature of Scripps Miramar is its landscaping, which includes many mature eucalyptus trees that are most apparent along Pomerado Road. Located in the heart of Scripps Miramar is Lake Miramar, or as the City of San Diego likes to call it, Miramar Reservoir.
Picnic tables, barbeques, and passive boating (fishing, row boats, paddle boats) are available, but the main attraction continues to be the five-mile trail around the lake, popular with joggers, bikers, rollerbladers and other outdoor enthusiasts. After the 9/11 attacks, the trail was closed for security reasons at the dam (the 4 mile mark), but the loop has since been reopened. Each 4th of July, Lake Miramar is the site of a 10K race and 2-mile fun run. The community boasts numerous neighborhood and community parks and a Community Recreation Center.
The local Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club, a membership club, offers two facilities with aquatics, tennis, racquetball, fitness facilities, day care, family events and more. Saturdays, residents enjoy the Farmer's Market held at the former site of EBS Elementary School (Spring Canyon Road at Scripps Poway Parkway), and the annual 4th of July Parade is always a crowd pleaser.
